Plans are Finalized!

May 2nd

It is less than two months until I leave. Only a retreat, an Alcatraz swim, 3 finals, a 9 page paper, move out and a week long family vacation stand between me and Argentina. I have finalized almost all of my plans. Here is a little taste of what I will be doing.

Spanish Classes
One of my life goals is to be fluent in Spanish, so my primary goal while I am in Argentina is to learn and practice spanish. I will be taking classes at El Pasaje language school. I will take a combination of small group classes and private lessons.

Volunteering
The fist motivation for going on this trip was to volunteer. I will be working with an organization called L.I.F.E. The acronym stands for Luchemos para una Infancia Feliz y con Esperanza, which means "We strive for a childhood of happiness and hope". They work with children living in marginalized and impoverish communities in Argentina. I will be helping with after school actives both recreational and educational. Some times there are special events such as a TOMs shoes drop.

Home Stay
The school also sets there students up with places to live. The most popular choice is a home stay. Since smoking is very poplar in Argentina, it was difficult to find a non smoking home stay. I ended up deciding to stay with a retired woman named Esther. Up to 7 students stay in her house at a time and she barbecues for them every weekend. It is located on Corrientes avenue, which is one of the main streets in Buenos Aires. Here are a few picture of the place.
